Port Ciutadella Hotel

Buzz trips opinion of Port Ciutadella Hotel

Port Ciutadella Hotel is a good value, no frills hotel that offers a comfortable and friendly base from which to explore the city. The stroll to the marina and old town alongside the port is a joy and the perfect way to start the evening, enjoying an early sundowner Mahon gin and lemon en route or a cortado on the way home.

Port Ciutadella Hotel, Passeig de Marítim, 36; Ciutadella, Menorca

Port Ciutadella Hotel is a bright and modern hotel constructed around a central courtyard in which a freestyle swimming pool and sun terraces take centre stage. Sited at the mouth of the port on a small headland which provides great views, it’s a 10 to 15 minute stroll along the Passeig de Marítim, or a 10 minute adventure maze through the back streets, to the bars and restaurants of the marina and the old quarter of Ciutadella.

Rooms:
Rooms are generous in size and retro minimalist in style, teaming soft terracotta shades with cream to make the most of the light. There’s nothing fussy about the décor and there’s no ‘wow’ factor but they’re kept clinically clean and provide everything you need for your city base. Choose from pool or sea view and upgrade to a suite for even more floor space.

Facilities:
The central courtyard pool area rarely gets busy as most people are out exploring the city and the old quarter. If you’re there at the beginning or end of the season when temperatures can begin to dip, head to the indoors pool which is heated. The restaurant serves buffet style breakfast with a good selection of cooked and Continental choices and an omelette station. Our advice would be to take the bed and breakfast option and don’t miss out on the excellent range of restaurants you’ll find around the old quarter and the marina. There are spa facilities for an additional €5 per person but we haven’t tried them and so can’t really comment.

Prices from €110 per night for room and breakfast.
